Setting off
Pedro and I got ready to go on Saturday the 13th of April for a night-time sailing on the Spirit. We packed our bags, said our farewells, and set off... to our caravan a block down the road. After setting everything up in the caravan and making one quick trip home to collect a forgotten doona, we began the painstaking procedure of getting the caravan out of the driveway it was parked in. I was not much help in this matter so I left it up to Dad and the help of a relative.
After making it out of the driveway we started our drive up to Devonport for the departure of the Spirit. Our first pit stop was the frequently utilised Campbell Town. Both Pedro and I had a bathroom stop there (see the first photo) before I grabbed a big afternoon tea of nachos. We all had a quick rest in the caravan where I discovered a present left for me and Pedro. Pedro then quickly put the ball to use and burnt some energy being put back in his crate for the car ride.
We made a brief second stop in Sassafras for some fuel before pushing through to Devonport.
Upon arriving in Devonport I quickly took Pedro out for a much-needed toileting stop before we jumped in the caravan and had a rest. We walked a few blocks near the Spirit terminal to stretch our legs and attempt to wear out Pedro. It was then time for our makeshift dinner in the caravan and preparing for our departure.
The beginning of our leaving happened very quickly when someone suddenly knocked on our caravan door and told us to move the car. After moving through a ticket checkpoint and security inspection we were ushered into a line where we then had to wait for another 4 hours before we could actually board the boat. In that time I made the most of the reclining seat and had a nap with Pedro on my lap.
We finally boarded at around 11pm where I then got Pedro ready for his night alone :( I made him as comfy as possible and reluctantly said goodbye so we could get to bed. We then found our cabin and I quickly got ready for bed before crashing at around 12.
I had a slow start this morning and had a breakfast of champions with a choccy muffin and a coffee. We're due to start disembarking at around 10.45 where we'll start heading to our first campsite at Lilydale.
Signing off for now,
Ari and Pedro ❤️
